Despite the interest of fans, it appears that the Cleveland Browns will not be making an attempt to sign recently released quarterback Josh Freeman. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported Friday afternoon (tweet) that, after doing some research, “don’t expect the Browns to make a run at Josh Freeman.” Freeman, the No. 17 pick in the 2009 Draft, was initially the undoubted starter for Tampa Bay in 2013 under head coach Greg Schiano. But after a disappointing start, he was later benched for rookie Mike Glennon and, after a string of bad news stories released to the move, was released by the team earlier in the week. The Kansas State product threw for over 3,400 yards every year from 2010-2012. His best performance was that sophomore season when he had 25 touchdowns against only six interceptions. At the time, he was viewed as a rising star in the league. Since then, he threw 45 touchdowns and 42 interceptions in his final 34 games for Tampa Bay, often clashijng with Schiano over the last year-plus. After both Buffalo’s E.J. Manuel and Cleveland’s Brian Hoyer were lost with injuries during Thursday’s primetime game in Cleveland, the two teams were rumored to be the favorites to nab Freeman quickly. For now, however, the Browns might not be one of the top candidates aiming for the controversial QB’s services. [Related: Leaders emerging in Cleveland Browns locker room]
