If Jimmy Haslam III’s ability to run the Browns came into question his father would take over the club according to a report in the Sports Business Journal. You might remember that there was a lot of confusion about who, exactly, was buying the Browns when news of the Haslam ownership first broke. Browns fans wondered if it was the 83-year-old founder of Pilot or his current-CEO son. Now, if something gets in the way of the younger Haslam’s ability to run the team, Browns fans might finally get to know the man who started it all in 1958. Of course, should that occur, I’m sure nobody will bring up Roger Goodell’s quotes on the topic to the Cleveland media from last week. It’s all so sad for Browns fans too, because without the Pilot Flying J issues, I think the fan-base might have finally been truly excited for an ownership group while also not feeling like they were waiting for a shoe to drop. All indications thus far are that this hasn’t impacted the day-to-day operations of the Browns, but as long as this issue hangs in the balance that all seems hardly guaranteed.
