Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin has announced that if the team were to release him, he will retire.
“I won’t play in another uniform. We have a saying, once a Raven, always a Raven, and I’ll always be a Raven,” Boldin said in a recent interview with Pro Football Talk.
The Super Bowl champs have four unrestricted free agents: Joe Flacco, Ed Reed, Dennis Ellerbee and Paul Kruger, so the Ravens might have to cut Boldin early to save cap space and sign those four.
Boldin has only one year left on his contract, including $6 million for the 2013 season. At 32-years-old, Boldin had a solid 2012 season, just short of 1,000 yards. But in the playoffs, Boldin shined as he put up 380 yards and four touchdowns.
Boldin is deserving of all $6 million on his contract, as he proved it with his Super Bowl performance, in which he put up 104 yards and one touchdown.
“I think you go out and let your play speak for itself,” Boldin said. “You deal with that if you have to, but, I think for me — I know for me — Baltimore is the only place I want to play.”
Boldin led the Ravens and the whole NFL in receiving yards during the playoffs. The Ravens will try to keep him, but if they need an extra $6 million in another player’s contract, don’t be surprised to see Baltimore let the veteran go.
