New England Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett has one career completion. Mallett was a third-round selection of the Patriots and has generated a little bit of offseason trade buzz, especially surrounding the Cleveland Browns. According to a report which surfaced on Tuesday night, the Patriots are looking for a first-round selection in exchange for Mallett.
NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport Tweeted Tuesday night, “Patriots won’t trade him unless it’s for a first or maybe a second.”
The trade speculation surfaced when it became apparent that former Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel would be released by the Kansas City Chiefs. Browns GM Michael Lombardi had interest in Mallett, and it was believed that New England might move Mallett in order to recoup some draft picks. The Patriots, generally stocked with draft picks have no fourth, fifth or sixth round selection this season.
