The New England Patriots slapped the franchise tag on productive slot receiver Wes Welker last season despite the receiver desiring a long-term contract. Welker has recorded over 100 catches per season in five of his six seasons with the Patriots but is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in March. Could he be open to a return with New England? One writer believes that might happen.
Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston believes that Welker might be open to a two-year deal with New England this offseason. Mr. Reiss believes that the Patriots might offer up a two-year deal worth $16 million dollars. It is likely that this is not the type of deal that Welker is desiring. At 32, this will be his last chance to collect a big pay day and he’ll likely be looking for a longer term deal worth more money.

Is Wes Welker Pricing Himself Right Off The New England Roster? Would You Pay Him 11.4 Million Dollars With A Franchise Tag?
There is a reason that the New England Patriots put the franchise tag on Wes Welker in 2012. The guy is that good and he was worth keeping at 9.515 million in 2012. A strong middle class? Three Patriots account for 35 percent of salary cap
Once upon a time in New England, it was a common phrase to say the Patriots had a strong middle class. The thought was to slightly overpay for players who would sign elsewhere due to lack of opportunities to start, thus creating depth or a “strong middle class.”
However, when looking over the Patriots salary cap, there is one glaring contradiction. Tom Brady, Vince Wilfork...
Same time next year for New England Patriots
The 2012 season came to a shocking end for the New England Patriots with the loss in the AFC Championship game at home to the Baltimore Ravens. For Bill Belichick & Co. the bar is set astronomically high. Anything less than playing and winning the final game on the NFL calendar is deemed as a failure.
Much like after the loss in Super Bowl 46 the immediate future looks pretty...
