NEW YORK GIANTS (41) d TAMPA BAY (34)

The Headline: Giants overcome feisty Bucs to get title defense back on track

The Story:

Well that was a little bit crazy, the Buccaneers looked like they were coming away with an upset win in the stadium against the defending champions before a 25-7 rally in the final quarter gave the Giants a much needed win. Under new coach Greg Schiano the Buccaneers looked feisty and up for this game harrying Eli Manning into three interceptions while Josh Freeman was good but produced some jaw dropping moments including a perfectly placed pass to Vincent Jackson for the game’s first touchdown. Jackson had a big day catching 5 balls for 128 yards and the touchdown giving the Buccaneers the true top receiver they need. Of course it wasn’t enough for the Buccaneers to get the win they needed as Eli Manning did what he always seems to do, suck at first, have everyone angry at him then when it’s crunch time, he turns it up to 11 and wins the game. Of course he didn’t do it alone as the defense forced two key interceptions off Josh Freeman but Manning was the driving force as he threw three fourth quarter touchdown passes to tie it up and eventually win the game. Both fans should focus on the positives from this game, the Giants should be happy they have Eli playing at his peak when his team needs it most and he was able to bounce back from an atrocious first half while Tampa is going to be better than everyone expected this year, they look up for the fight so far.

Key Stat: New York Giants 510 total passing yards

The Buccaneers defense, which had been so stingy for the first six quarters of the season got ripped to shreds by Eli Manning in the second half and seemingly had no answer as the Giants were chasing the lead down.

Key Play: Michael Boley interception with 5 seconds left.

The play before had seen a big gain overturned by the replay official meaning the Buccaneers had to heave the ball and hope for the best and that’s just what Josh Freeman did on this play. Flushed out to his right he had to make a blind heave down the field which overshot his target Dallas Clark and Boley was there to make the game clinching play.

Man of the Match: Hakeem Nicks

10 catches, 199 yards, 1 touchdown

This could be given to Manning for his efforts bouncing back from being so crap in the first half but you can’t go past the big plays that Nicks brought to the game, his touchdown catch is what sparked the Giants comeback and he posted his amazing stat line despite being matched against Aqib Talib, the Buccaneers best cornerback.
