Nnamdi Asomugha looks to prove his worth in the upcoming season with the San Francisco 49ers. He feels his time playing with the Philadelphia Eagles is something to forget. He wants to leave all the issues in Philly and have a new and fresh start with the 49ers. The 49ers signed the cornerback to a one-year contract that could pay as much as $3 million. San Francisco lost some players in the defensive back field so that was one of the reasons that the team signed Nnamdi. Asomugha shared his feelings about the upcoming seasons saying, “I don’t know a season I’ve ever gone in that I didn’t feel I had something to prove. I’ve had a chip on my shoulder every year that I’ve played. I think it’s different this year because of the adversity I went through in Philadelphia. It’s always been a part of my game coming in and showing what I can do. Now, being able to be here, start fresh with them, it’s a great opportunity for that.” If the Eagles did not release him, Nnamdi was set to make $15 million for the 2013 season. Asomugha wanted things to work out in Philadelphia, but he never felt right playing with the Eagles. During his time with the Oakland Raiders Asomugha was a shutdown corner and was feared by offensive coordinators. With the Oakland Raiders he made three Pro Bowls times. When he was with the Eagles it seems that Asante Samuel was the number one cornerback when the two played together. Last year Nnamdi Asomugha was 64th of 71 cornerbacks in yielding the fourth-most yards after catch and third-highest passer rating against. At one point he was ranked sixth overall when he played in Oakland. Asomugha will now be playing Donte Whitner, Carlos Rogers, and Craig Dahl. On working with the 49ers he said, “I just want to have fun. That’s the attitude I’m coming in with. I want to win games, and I’m going to do whatever I can to make those things happen, regardless of what I’m coming into.” Will Nnamdi be able to back up his words this upcoming season? 49ers fans will have to wait for Week 1 of the 2013 season to see if he can.
