Shane Vereen was spotted in the Patriots locker room with no hard cast on his injured wrist Thursday. Last Thursday Vereen was seen working out on Gillette Stadium's practice fields with his hand/wrist heavily wrapped. Vereen was placed on short-term injured reserve after suffering a broken bone in his wrist during New England's Week 1 win over the Bills. That designation makes him eligible to return to practice in Week 8 before the Patriots play the Dolphins. Vereen isn't eligible to play in a game until Week 10 but since that is the Patriots bye week he won't make his return to New England's offense until Week 11 against the Panthers. Vereen was injured on his first play from scrimmage against the Bills but he still ended up with 159 yards from scrimmage including 101 yards rushing. There has been no clear-cut replacement for Vereen in the Patriots offense though Brandon Bolden has at times been thrust into a similar third-down-back type of role that Vereen...

Is Danny Amendola the biggest free agent bust since Alvin Harper?

When the New England Patriots signed Danny Amendola to replace Wes Welker they were hoping for the same type of production, but they knew when they signed him, he has not had one season in the NFL where he played more than 12 games. They let Wes Welker go, and he currently leads the NFL […]

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is finally cleared to play by Doctors

Tom Brady has a smile that goes from ear to ear, and I don’t blame him. Good luck New York Jets, your battle just got a lot harder.  Rob Gronkowski is the best tight end in the game when healthy. In the past few years he has been banged up quite a bit, suffering some […]

Worst Fears Come True: Jerod Mayo Out for the Season

According to WEEI.com, there was a chance that if Jerod Mayo's pectoral injury was not too severe, then the two-time pro bowler would be able to begin lifting again in six weeks and could make a return to the field in eight weeks. That won't be happening. The Patriots have lost another team captain for the season, placing Mayo on injured reserve.  New England has now...

Injury Lottery

This is the time of year I enjoy playing what I call, Injury Lottery. I look at all the injured free agents who will return this year, and I pick out my favorite and hold him on my roster until he is healthy. Like every year, this season has plenty of good injured players. You could go the long-term route, with Randall Cobb or Shane Vereen. Vereen won’t be back for at least a month...

Rob Ninkovich, Devin McCourty Officially Named Patriots Defensive Captains

Season-ending injuries to Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo briefly left the Patriots without a defensive captain. The team has now announced that Rob Ninkovich and Devin McCourty will serve as captains for the rest of the season. With captains Vince Wilfork & Jerod Mayo on IR, Devin McCourty & Rob Ninkovich have been named defensive captains. — New England Patriots (@Patriots...

Patriots receivers at the top of the league in dropped passes

BARRY CHIN/GLOBE STAFF Bad passes and drops. So far that's been the story of the Patriots offense. Certainly, the evidence would back that up. Tom Brady is currently completing just 56.9% of his passes, the lowest mark of his career. A lot of that has to do with some rookie wide receivers who haven't been able to catch the ball. According to NBC Sports, the Patriots...

Dane Fletcher Says He’s a ‘Special Teams Guy Right Now’ and Other Notes From Patriots Locker Room

FOXBORO, Mass. — With Jerod Mayo lost for the season, it’s another case of “next man up” for the Patriots at linebacker. Jamie Collins has received the most snaps as a reserve linebacker, though many have assumed fourth-year linebacker Dane Fletcher will get a heavier workload Since he’s only played 12 snaps on defense this season, Fletcher said he doesn’t know how...

Rosenhaus refutes Gronk, Pats spat

The murmurs about Rob Gronkowski's playing status have quieted down quite a bit this week, but his agent Drew Rosenhaus wanted to clear the air on all the supposed controversy. Rosenhaus joined the Joe Rose Show as he does weekly on WQAM in Miami on Thursday to discuss all things NFL. As has become a recurring theme this season, Rosenhaus was asked about Gronkowski and all the...

Patriots’ Aqib Talib likely out for Sunday, Rob Gronkowski cleared to play

Mike Petraglia of WEEI.com reports that New England Patriots shutdown cornerback, Aqib Talib, will miss Sunday’s game against the New York Jets while Mike Reiss via twitter reports tight end Rob Gronkowski is “cleared” to play. Talib suffered a hip flexor strain last Sunday against the New Orleans Saints and has not practiced all week. The injury to Talib is a rotten cherry...

Aqib Talib Returns To Practice Friday

New England cornerback Aqib Talib (hip injury) returned to practice on Friday after missing the first two sessions this week.Fantasy Spin:Talib isn't likely to be 100 percent by kickouff and the Pats may try to squeeze past the Jets without him. Given Bill Belichick's communication with the media, we probably won't know for sure until inactives are announced Sunday morning.

Rex: Creativity a must in rematch with Brady

The New York Jets held Tom Brady to just 185 passing yard in Week 2, but ultimately unraveled down the stretch en route to a 13-10 in Foxborough. If Rex Ryan and company hope to pull the upset on the return leg of the AFC East matchup, the Jets will need to get creative defensively to keep Brady and the Patriots on their heels.
