The New Orleans Saints held a bonus practice on Tuesday that was closed to the media and didn’t require an injury report. So there were no updates available from the team. However, it’s worth noting that the Saints didn’t make any official transactions on Tuesday – which I take as a sign that rookie defensive end Glenn Foster might not need to be placed on injured reserve with his recent leg injury. Foster was carted off the field with the unspecified injury during last Thursday’s victory over the Atlanta Falcons. If the injury were a season-ender, I think the Saints would have made a move to replace him before returning to practice on Tuesday. Foster has been one of the Saints’ most pleasant surprises this season as an undrafted rookie from Illinois. A disruptive athlete at 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, Foster has three sacks in nine games played as a backup. According to Pro Football Focus, he also has two quarterback hits and four hurries. The Saints have the depth to make up for Foster’s absence, however. Starter Cameron Jordan is having a Pro Bowl-worthy season, and second-year starter Akiem Hicks isn't far behind. Behind them, veteran Tom Johnson and second-year pro Tyrunn Walker have played at a high level in small doses. And the Saints use outside linebackers Junior Galette, Keyunta Dawson and Parys Haralson as ends in many pass-rushing formations. Walker has actually been a healthy inactive for the last couple weeks since recovering from his own knee injury because of the Saints’ depth at the position.
