Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times writes that it’s ”not a stretch” to think fourth-round pick Tyler Wilson beat out Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor for the Raiders starting quarterback job. Corkran mentions that Wilson displayed the “poise and skills of a seasoned veteran” during recent practices. Wilson was able to dispel some of the common criticisms regarding his ability during the draft process, such as arm strength and deep ball accuracy. Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie and HC Dennis Allen aren’t willing to anoint Flynn as their starter. Instead, they’ll only go as far to say to that Flynn will start off working with the first-team offense. Last year, Flynn entered an almost identical situation in Seattle, which resulted in Russell Wilson beating him out for the starting job. Wilson was clearly an amazing find for the Seahawks, so it’s not a huge knock on Flynn that he couldn’t beat out Wilson for the starting job. But if he’s unable to separate himself from Wilson, then there’s a good chance that he may never get another opportunity at starting in the NFL.
