Rob Gronkowski’s rookie deal takes him through the 2013 season, so there’s need to worry about the tight end and free agency in the immediate future. But it might be wise for the Patriots, as well as Gronk’s camp to get the ball rolling on discussions at some point this year.
In the lead to my NFL Sunday notes today, I examined the benefits for both sides being proactive here. I looked at why it makes sense for the Pats, and also, why it might work from Gronk’s end.
Who will make the first move? Maybe it’s Gronkowski’s side, with agent Drew Rosenhaus trying to make the most of the tight end’s record-breaking season.Â
Maybe it’s the Pats, looking to lock up their prize offensive weapon, much like they did in preemptive fashion with Jerod Mayo.
