What will it take? Now that the Seahawks have made the playoffs as the 5th seed in the NFC, they are set to travel to Landover, Maryland to take on the Washington Redskins. The question has been posed, “What would be a disappointing playoff run?” Before I get into that, let’s take a look at what the 2012 Seahawks football team has accomplished this season. 6th best record in the NFL #1 scoring defense in the NFL #3 team in the NFL in point differential (Broncos, Patriots) second highest point differential in team history (2005) Only team in NFL to go 8-0 at home the season Russell Wilson tied Peyton Manning’s rookie record for touchdown passes with 26 Russell Wilson had the 2nd highest completion percentage in team history (Hasselbeck) Wilson had the 4th most touchdown passes in team history Wilson had the highest quarterback rating in team history Wilson had the 2nd highest rookie quarterback rating Wilson set the record for rushing touchdowns by a Seahawks quarterback in a game (3) Bobby Wagner set the team record for tackles by a rookie with 140 3rd best record in team history Fewest points given up, in a 16 game season, by any Seahawks team Marshawn Lynch had the 3rd most rushing yards in team history Lynch had the 2nd best yards per carry in team history (Alexander 2005) Leon Washington had the highest yards per kick return in team history Steven Hauschka had the 3rd highest field goal percentage Richard Sherman had the longest blocked kick return for a touchdown in team history (90 yards) My heart want to pick the Seahawks to win the NFC ! I expect the Seahawks to travel to Maryland and come back with the second road playoff win in team history, the first since December 31, 1983.  However, when I look what this extremely young Seahawks team has already accomplished this season, I cannot be disappointed no matter how the game goes on Sunday. As I stated earlier in the week, I feel that this is the best team in the history of the franchise. Putting the regular season aside, here is how I see the NFC playoffs panning out.             Wild Card #6 seed Vikings @ #3 seed Packers #5 seed Seahawks @ #4 seed Redskins             Divisional Round #3 seed Packers @ #2 seed 49ers #5 seed Seahawks @ #1 seed Falcons             NFC Championship Game #5 seed Seahawks @ #2 seed 49ers My heart wants to pick the Seahawks to win the NFC Championship, yet my desire to honestly evaluate the situation leads me to believe that the Seahawks will lose the Championship game to the 49ers. After traveling over 9,000 miles, and spending over 18 hours in a jet, between the Wild Card and Divisional rounds of the playoffs, I think fatigue will catch up with them during a physical game in San Francisco. Like I stated previously, I will not be disappointed in the Seahawks performance if they get knocked out in the first round. To be honest, I wont be totally shocked if they end up winning the Super Bowl. What I expect to see is a record of 2-1 in the post season this year, 13-6 record overall on the season.  The Seahawks should be considered on of the top contenders to represent the NFC in Super Bowl 48 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
