With the Giants loss to the Bengals yesterday, the blame game is a fun thing to do. I've seen a few mentions of Eli Manning not having zip on the ball. Whatever. I say that because it's a moot point. The Giants, under Tom Coughlin, perform just well enough in the regular season to stumble into the playoffs, and then somehow win Super Bowls. It's just how this team works.
For this season though, the Giants are going to need some 5 Hour Energy to finish the schedule.
The Giants sit at 6-4 and are going into a bye week. Thank the heavens for that. If the G-Men are tired, now is the time to get some rest. Here is their remaining schedule:
11/25 Green Bay
12/3 at Washington (Monday)
12/9 New Orleans
12/16 at Atlanta
12/23 at Baltimore
I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Giants go 2-4 over their final six games, and finish 8-8. Green Bay is tough, and the Giants just got torched by Andy Dalton. New Orleans? I said last week they would beat the Falcons. And they play the Saints coming off a MNF game. It's a short week. Baltimore just put up Oklahoma State numbers on the Raiders.
The biggest threat to overtake the Giants in the NFC East standings is the Cowboys. Their remaining schedule:
11/22 Washington (Thanksgiving)
12/23 New Orleans
The Cowboys need to make up ground on the Giants. If the Giants do in fact finish 8-8, the Cowboys would need to go 5-2 over their final seven games to grab the division crown and guaranteed playoff spot. A 5-2 record against those teams is certainly feasible. However, if the Giants even win 3 games over their final six games, the Cowboys are practically toast, and are fighting for a wildcard spot, just like the Saints.
I expect only one playoff team out of the NFC East, so it's win the division or nothing. It's just a matter of who wants it.
