Earlier today, the United States Supreme Court dealt with the question of whether California’s ban on same-sex marriage violates the Constitution. In the lead up to it, NFL players, like free agent Scott Fujita, have not only been campaigning for equal-marriage rights, but for a safe atmosphere for gay players to feel comfortable with being in with everyone knowing their sexual preference. The NY Post relayed a story that CBS Sports’ Mike Freeman that ran yesterday, reporting that a gay player is possibly planning on coming out sometime in the very near future. While Freeman’s article did not specify, nor did it speculate as to who the player was, the NY Post did a poor job of editing their telling of the story and incorrectly outed Fujita “I honestly think the players of the NFL have been ready for an openly gay player for quite some time now,” retired linebacker and gay-marriage advocate Scott Fujita told columnist Mike Freeman. “Trust me, the coming out of a player would create much bigger waves outside the locker room than inside.” Fujita came out after retirement and focused on the problem of possible public backlash Here’s a screenshot: That differs not just a [...]
