Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski made history on Monday night against the Denver Broncos after drilling a 63-yard field goal right before halftime–which tied former Saints kicker Tom Dempsey and former Broncos kicker Jason Elam for the longest kick in NFL history. While a moment like this is quite the accomplishment for Janikowski, the Raiders believe their beloved kicker actually has the record for himself.
According to Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Raiders plan on appealing the spot of the ball with the league–claiming that Janikowski set the record himself and drilled the field goal from 64 yards instead of 63 yards. As crazy as it sounds, Janikowski’s last-second attempt before halftime turned out to be a key factor in the game considering the Raiders went on to win the game 23-20.

If you look at the video fm Dempsey (I'm old enough to remember) the goal posts were on the goal line....not like now where they are 10 yds back...so 63 was actually 73 for Jani

63yds is still 63yds whether its in Denver or Dallas. Whether its on carpet or grass. Come on give the guy some credit, that was a long a** kick.
