With all the issues the Oakland Raiders have had putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks; the team signed Andre Carter on September 26th. A quad injury ended Carter's season last year after making 14 starts for the New England Patriots. Now with the Raiders, head coach Dennis Allen has not made a decision regarding Carter's availability Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

“He’s had now two and a half weeks of work getting back into football shape,” Allen said. “[Wednesday] was the first he’s actually practiced in pads, but yeah, I’m getting more comfortable with where he’s at.”

Carter is an 11 year veteran who amassed 10 sacks last season for the Patriots in 14 games. The defense end could provide a spark for the Raiders defense that has only been able to sack the quarterback three times this season. With all the injuries in at the cornerback position, the pass rush is essential to slow down the potent Atlanta offense.

“Andre is an experienced pass rusher, a whole bunch of career sacks,” defensive coordinator Jason Tarver said. “He’s been practicing very well out here. He’s really helped the group too. He’s helped the group for a lot of reasons. One because he’s here competing with them, competition makes you better, and two because he’s such a great pass rusher with his hands he can help some of our guys with their moves.”

If Carter is able to go, he probably will only be in as a situational pass rusher. His 76 career sacks are a testament to his longevity and ability. With his knack for getting pressure, he would be a welcome addition to the Raiders front four. Another defensive end to takes snaps will keep the other members of the line fresh against a face paced Falcon's attack.
