Denard Robinson agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars this morning, but the position he will play is still up in the air (Credit: AP) The Jacksonville Jaguars reached an agreement with fifth-round pick Denard Robinson this morning, banking him a signing bonus of about $210,000. What’s most interesting about this, however, is that Robinson is one of the rare players that doesn’t know exactly where he will be playing when the season starts. Robinson, who described himself prior to the draft as an “offensive weapon,” has been listed as OW on the Jaguars roster, showing that they aren’t entirely sure where he will fit position-wise for this Jaguars team. Regardless of this fact, it’s fair to say that Robinson is excited to be there and excited to be a Jaguar (sorry Tim, I couldn’t resist). “It’s a great feeling to sign my first NFL contract….It’s something I’ve been waiting my whole life for, and I’m ready to get to camp later this month and get back to work. I was able to get a feel for the NFL game during the offseason, and I look forward to getting the pads on and just keep improving with each practice.” Although his position is not certain, Robinson has been attending meetings with running backs. Even if Robinson acts as a running back for the team, this will not be the extent of his use, as he expects to play some snaps as a wide receiver, return man, and, oh yeah, quarterback as well. While Robinson’s athleticism cannot be questioned, it is incredibly unlikely that Robinson will find success in all of these positions. The reason being that each position involve a wide range of skill sets, all of which are near impossible to fully master, especially when attempting to do so for quarterback, running back, and receiver. Despite all this talk about where Robinson will play, it may not matter all that much because David Caldwell is planning on only 10-15 touches for the rookie play-maker. One thing is for sure, Robinson has big play potential and any time he is on the field, no matter where he lines up, it will be fun to watch.
