Out with the old and in with the new.  After acquiring star corner Stephon Gilmore out of South Carolina with the 10th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft (as well as CB Ron Brooks from LSU near the tail-end of the fourth round), Drayton Florence received the boot by the team on Tuesday morning, according to Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com. Florence, 31, has spent the past three years with the Buffalo Bills, collecting 168 tackles, seven interceptions, two touchdowns and a pair of forced fumbles in 46 games (45 starts). Photo Credit: BuffaloBills.com The 6-0, 193-pound cornerback was scheduled to make $4 million in base salary for the 2012 season and would have counted for $4.9 million against the salary cap. Analogous to the rest of the team’s secondary, the former second-round selection by the San Diego Chargers in the 2003 NFL Draft didn’t fair too well in 2011.  Florence forfeited a passer rating of 103.3 on his watch in coverage and surrendered a completion rate of 60.3 percen...

Buffalo Bills: Camp battles looming at defensive tackle

With the off-season acquisitions of Defensive Ends Mario Williams and Mark Anderson and the switch back to the 4-3 defense, the Buffalo Bills are the deepest they have been in years on the defensive line.  In fact the team is currently carrying 17 defensive lineman going into camp and will likely cut that number down

Bills cut veteran CB Florence

Cornerback Drayton Florence was released by the Bills. Florence played 46 games, including 45 starts, in his three seasons with the Bills, who drafted cornerback Stephon Gilmore in the first round of the 2012 draft. Florence signed a three-year, $15 million contract as a free agent in 2009. He was a second-round pick in the 2003 draft out of Tennessee-Chattanooga when current...

Bills Cut Ties With Drayton Florence

In the first surprising post-draft move by the Buffalo Bills, the team has released veteran cornerback Drayton Florence. The move saves the Bills $9-million in base salary over the next two years. It only makes sense to believe that Buffalo has the plan in mind to have Aaron Williams and Stephon Gilmore be the team’s starting corners at the beginning of the season. It also could...

Not a fan of cutting Drayton Florence

Yes, I get it. Drayton Florence got burned a lot last year. I'm talking Freddy Kruggar burnt. I know some fans have never been able to get over his "It's a business" or he's a "business man" comments while others liked him because he Tweeted about the Bills Mafia. I don't care either way. Yes, he was a walking pass interference cornerback who...

Vince Young left Buffalo without a deal

Free agent quarterback Vince Young’s try out with the Buffalo Bills came and went yesterday with out him signing a contract.  He’s now reportedly left Buffalo and there haven’t been any indications as to whether he’ll sign with the Bills, but I’d say it’s unlikely right now. It seems like the Bills are looking for some competition for their back up quarterback job going...

YouTube sensation Alex Tanney accepts invite to Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp

Heading into this year’s NFL draft Alex Tanney‘s name wasn’t frequently mentioned by Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, and Mike Mayock. That doesn’t mean he was an unknown commodity. Tanney gained YouTube fame thanks to this video.   But Alex is more than just the “Trick Shot Quarterback”. In 2011 the Monmouth College signal [...]

Buffalo Bills Training Camp Battles Part Three: Cornerback

The Buffalo Bills selected South Carolina’s Stephon Gilmore and Louisiana State’s Ron Brooks in the 2012 NFL Draft, paving the way to release veteran cornerback Drayton Florence, who has been with the team for three seasons. The battle for the two starting cornerback positions will be one of the most intriguing competitions to keep an eye on when the Bills begin their offseason...

Fred Jackson wants a contract by training camp

Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson is still waiting for a new contract as he enters the final year of his current deal. NFL.com’s Around the League asked him when’s the latest he’d like to get a new contract finalized. “We’ve always said we want to have something done by training camp,” he said. “So if we get to training camp and nothing is going on, then something...

YouTube QB lands invite to Bills camp

A five-minute YouTube video was enough to make quarterback Alex Tanney an overnight sensation for displaying his uncanny accuracy. Tanney created a big buzz last year in the self-titled ''Trick Shot Quarterback'' video by showing he can hit a receiver in a moving vehicle and throw footballs from across the court and swish them into basketball nets. He even banged...

Buffalo Bills Training Camp Battles Part One: Offensive Tackle

With the 2012 NFL Draft in the rear view mirror, it’s time to take a look at the training camp positional battles that will ultimately determine the opening day starters. In my first installment, I’ll take a look at the offensive tackles, a position the Buffalo Bills really addressed in the draft this year. The Bills currently have five offensive tackles on the roster, with...

Bills believe Stephon Gilmore can cover Gronkowski and Hernandez

With the addition of rookie cornerback Stephon Gilmore, general manager Buddy Nix and the Buffalo Bills believe he can be a viable option when it comes to covering Rob Gronkowski or Aaron Hernandez of the Patriots. “We would like to be able to match up against those two guys,” said Nix regarding Gronkowski and Hernandez. ”Even though you’re not as big as they are these guys...
