49ers Gab:
There are not many players who can match up with the talent of former 49a??ers WR and now Cowboys pass catcher Terrell Owens, and Sunday at Texas Stadium, T.O. punished his former team for a whopping 213 yards as the Cowboys beat the 49a??ers 35-22. The loss drops the Niners to 3-8 on the season, and all those warm, fuzzy feelings from last Sunday's win are now quickly washed away.
The Niners actually led the game 6-0 after the first quarter on two Joe Nedney field goals, but Dallas was just warming up, as they scored on an Owens 75-yard TD catch from Tony Romo, a blocked punt for a safety, two Nick Folk field goals, and then another Romo TD pass, this time to Martellus Bennett from one-yard out with :52 left in the half to put Dallas up by a commanding 16 points.
San Fran made it somewhat of a game with Shaun Hill throwing a couple of fourth quarter TD passes to Isaac Bruce and DeShaun Foster to turn a 32-9 game into a 35-22 final, but on this day with the way that Owens and Romo played, the Niners were no match for the high powered Cowboys attack.
Dallas piled up 408 yards of offense, and were a very good 9-for-18 on third downs. Romo was on and may have played his best game of the year, throwing for 341 yards on 23-for-39 passing and three TD's. Hill actually didn't play all that bad for the Niners, as he went 21-for-33 for 303 yards and two TD's with one pick, but trailing bad at the half, the Niners had to throw a lot in the second half.
San Fran had very little to speak of in the running game, as Frank Gore had just 26 yards, and the team as a whole had 26 yards on 15 carries, a 1.7 yards per carry average. With five games left in the season, the team will try to make the best of it - next up on the slate is a road game in Buffalo vs the Bills next Sunday.
