C.J. Wilson has beaten out rookie Jerel Worthy as the Green Bay Packers' starting right end in their 3-4 base defense.

The Packers installed Wilson ahead of Worthy, a second-round draft choice, at the start of their off-season program and never found a reason to change.

"C.J.'s there," said Mike Trgovac, who coaches the defensive line. "C.J.'s been a very solid player. Just what you need out of an 'Okie' end."

Wilson, 6 feet 3 inches and 300 pounds, doesn't figure to have a role in the nickel and dime defenses.

His job will be to play either defensive end, control one or two gaps depending on the call and stop the run. When pass shows, his job is to shove the double team and be alert to quarterback scrambles.

"Listen, you don't have to be fancy in this defense," Trgovac said. "Everyone wants us to be these 3-techniques that rush up the field. Three-quarters of the time that's not what we do."

Packers Stock Report: Roster Bubble Edition

Packers LB Jamari Lattimore is rising. It’s time to bring back the Packers stock report. I’m back in my blogging chair after spending three booze-fueled days and nights in Madison, Wis. I gained about 10 pounds and reduced the functionality of my liver by about 7 percent. A typical weekend in Madison. The only way to get my body back to where it was pre-Madison is to type a couple...

Thomas Hobbes: My Initial Packers 53-man Roster Prediction

Well here we go again, last year I was completely off and I don’t expect to be much different this year.  I have however thought a lot about the rationale for creating a NFL roster and I came up with these ideas a couple weeks ago, which I’ll try to use as my baseline rules. Offense – 24 players Quarterback (2): Aaron Rodgers, Graham Harrell Rodgers is obviously a lock and...

Harrell beats back critics with perfect QB rating

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers was not pleased with the way the media and the public had been treating his backup quarterback, Graham Harrell, throughout the preseason. But Harrell's play had warranted criticism. Through the Packers' first three games, he had completed just 32 of 63 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions. He had made enough throws for fans and reporters...

Aaron Rodgers Gets Pied In the Face

Aaron Rodgers certainly wasn't doing a celebration after this interview.  While taking questions from the media, there wasn't just microphones in his face.  Packers' Fullback John Kuhn weaved through the reporters like they were the defensive line and managed to give Rodgers a face full of shaving cream (he was probably due for a shave anyways).I wonder if Rodgers will...

Packers Have Room For Sherrod

Second-year offensive tackle Derek Sherrod is still on the active roster The Packers have yet to place Derek Sherrod on the physically unable on perform list, and while it could still happen by the end of the week, it’s beginning to look as if the second-year tackle will start the season on the 53-man roster. And he should. Having the former Mississippi State star available to...

Benson 'leading off' in Packers' backfield

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It sounds like Cedric Benson is about to officially be named the Packers' starting running back for this season. Benson's biggest competition for that spot during Green Bay's recent training camp practices has been second-year running back Alex Green. However, with Green still somewhat limited 10 months after tearing his ACL, Benson will likely get...

Green Bay Packers history with CHFF on Wisconsin WTMJ

Conventional wisdom says Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers won on the ground. Conventional wisdom is wrong. They won through the air: and now that story is hitting the airwaves in Wisconsin.

If Perry and fellow starting outside linebacker Clay Matthews, along with the rest of the defense, are able to perform all season the way they did in their third preseason game last week, the Packers' rookie could be onto something.Finishing with only 29 sacks last...
