GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The first day of practice could not have gone worse for Green Bay Packers rookie offensive lineman JC Tretter. According to multiple reports, Tretter broke his ankle Monday and will be out several months. Tretter, a fourth-round pick out of Cornell, was expected to compete for a top backup job on a Green Bay offensive line that struggled last season. Following Tuesday's practice, coach Mike McCarthy would not confirm Tretter's injury. "Really, Tretter is going through the medical process right now," McCarthy said. "I don't have a clear (timetable). He's going through the process. "He will not be available for the rest of the OTAs." Though Tretter's injury is the most recent, he wasn't the only Packers player who sat out practice on Tuesday. On defense, linebackers Desmond Bishop and Dezman Moses didn't participate, nor did cornerback Davon House, safety Sean Richardson or defensive linemen Ryan Pickett and Jerel Worthy. Four offensive players were out, as well. Running back DuJuan Harris, offensive lineman Derek Sherrod and rookie wide receivers Kevin Dorsey and Charles Johnson all stood around without taking part in any drills or conditioning. "With regards to the injury report, I'm not going to get into roll calls, injuries, just like we've done in the past as far as reporting in the OTAs," McCarthy said. "I'm here to talk about the players who worked today." Some of the injuries are carryovers from last season. Sherrod hasn't played since the 2011 season when he broke his leg. Worthy suffered a torn ACL in the 2012 regular-season finale. Bishop missed all of last season after tearing his hamstring. The other injuries remain a mystery for now. McCarthy said if he had to rank the order of return for Bishop, House and Sherrod, it'd be in that order, with Bishop expected back the quickest. One encouraging sign for the Packers was the return of tight end Andrew Quarless. Participating in every drill, Quarless appeared to be completely healthy after a gruesome knee injury in December 2011 kept him from playing at all last season. Quarless was added to the active roster for a couple weeks in 2012, but he never played. Follow Paul Imig on Twitter.
