GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay Packers starting safety Morgan Burnett broke his right hand in practice Thursday but is probable to play Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.Burnett did not practice Friday and is being fitted for a protective cast for his hand.When you have something taken away, you realize and appreciate how much more you need it, Burnett said. Its an adjustment Ill have to get used to. It feels funny.Burnett, a third-round pick by Green Bay in 2010, already has three interceptions this season, including two against Chicagos Jay Cutler in Week 3. He has been named the teams defensive player of the week twice this season by coach Mike McCarthy.The injury happened during a blitz drill collision on Thursday.Burnetts right hand was noticeably swollen on Friday afternoon.When it happened, I felt it, Burnett said. It hurt. I figured it was just a bruise. Its a little sore. Its getting better. Yesterday it was in a lot of pain, but right now the pain is easing up. Yesterday it was swollen a lot more. The swelling is going down.Burnett has been cleared to play by team doctor Pat McKenzie, but not without having his hand protected.They tell me Im able to go, Burnett said. Were just keeping it wrapped up and secure so that I can go.There is not a timetable for how long Burnett will have to wear the protective cast.Burnett played only four games last season as a rookie before tearing his ACL and being placed on injured reserve during the Packers run to the Super Bowl XLV championship.The Packers are already without safety Nick Collins for the season. Collins suffered a serious neck injury in Week 2 and was recently placed on injured reserve.Undrafted rookie safety M.D. Jennings took most of Burnetts snaps during the portion of practice open to the media on Friday.
