Rookie DE Thomas Keiser thought he made the Panthers' roster coming out of preseason drills. But when the Panthers claimed DE George Selvie off waivers on Sept. 4, Keiser found himself on the practice squad. It didn't deter the undrafted free agent from Stanford, who kept hustling at practice and giving the starting offensive lineman a good look. That work paid off this week when Keiser was promoted when LB Thomas Williams (neck) was placed on IR. "It was definitely tough, thinking I'd made it and then getting put down before the first game," Keiser said. "But I knew the opportunity was still there to be able to become active and play for the Panthers. That was my goal and I just worked toward that." Keiser said he has been working as a backup on several of the special teams, and getting a few defensive reps at practice. Panthers coach Ron Rivera said he was excited for Keiser, whom he called the team's most productive DE during the preseason. --Joseph Person
