Panthers WR Brandon LaFell Surprised To See QB Cam Newton Lose His Cool

Panthers wide receiver Brandon LaFell said he was surprised to learn that quarterback Cam Newton had been flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for bumping referee Jerome Boger during Sunday's 17-6 win against the Oakland Raiders. Newton apparently was upset that a penalty wasn't called on Raiders safety Mike Mitchell for hitting him late. Newton bumped Boger while arguing for a flag against Mitchell. "I really didn't know what happened because I was down the field," said LaFell, who'll come to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday for the regular-season finale against the New Orleans Saints. "All I heard was 'Man, Cam got a flag.' And he came to the huddle and apologized to us." After the game, Newton was seen apologizing to Boger. Later, Newton told reporters he made a mistake for making contact with the referee and was sorry the incident occurred. "It was real surprising because Cam always keeps his composure," said LaFell, a former LSU standout. "He never lets nothing get to him." Source: The Times Picayune
