One day after trimming 19 players from the roster, the Patriots continue to be active combing the waiver wire, making moves, and putting together a practice squad. We’ll throw out some of the moves both from here, and elsewhere, and add in as the day progresses. First up, ex-Jet James Dearth didn’t make it as the long snapper, as he was released today, according to a league source. (The Patriots have just now confirmed Dearth’s release). In turn, the Pats picked up LS Danny Aiken, a rookie free agent who had been waived by the Bills. Counting Matt Katula, that’s now three long snappers and the regular season has yet to begin. Mike Reiss from ESPNBoston.com, meanwhile, reported the Pats had also released OT Steve Maneri, also just confirmed by the team in a release.
