The Patriots have filled their need at defensive end, bringing back a familiar face. It’s just not the one we expected.
The Patriots will re-sign Eric Moore, according to his agent Eric Hires. The 6-foot-4, 268-pound Moore contributed mightily at the end last year, with 14 tackles and two sacks in five games. But he was cut at the end of camp this year, which was a surprise.
The team made this move (to fill the opening created by DE Jermaine Cunningham being placed on IR) instead of promoting practice squad DE Markell Carter. Perhaps it was Moore’s experience that won them over, or maybe it was because they didn’t want to promote Carter, have to cut him, then risk him on waivers.
Anyway, Moore spent this year with the Virginia Destroyers of the UFL and he will likely join the team in Washington later today. “He’s just excited to be part of it, get back to work and continue to help the Pats win,” Hires said.
