Patriots coach Bill Belichick was clearly stung after the Super Bowl XLVI loss to the Giants, but it wasn’t quite like 2007. This time, he seemed to really appreciate being there, being more expansive discussing it. Belichick offered some explanations on a few things, even though he was hurt by the defeat. “First of all, congratulations Giants,” Belichick said. “Won a championship, they’re a good football team and they’re well coached.  They obviously played well tonight. Very competitive football game, they just made a couple more plays then we did. By the way our guys played, fought, fought all year, fought tonight, and we had our chances. We just couldn’t quite make enough plays. Giants made a few more than we did. Really isn’t too much more to say about. Can’t fault the effort of any of our players. They played as hard as they could, we could have just played a tiny bit better.  It was obviously a very competitive football game.” Want some more highlights...

Belichick Better Hope Gisele Bündchen Can Get More Prayers For Patriots

Bill Belichick better hope Brady’s wife can get more prayers for the Patriots. By now everyone has had to hear of Gisele Bündchen sending out an e-mail asking for her friends and family to pray for (Tommy) her husband Tom Brady. The way the game started on New England’s first possession it doesn’t look like Gisele’s friend’s and family did their job...

pepperonsports: Note to self: Do NOT slack off around Jerod Mayo.  The Patriots fourth-year linebacker and team captain plays hard on the field because of the upbringing he had off it.  At 25 years old, Mayo is regarded as a veteran by his teammates and head coach Bill Belichick, who sang his praises at a Super Bowl media session on Wednesday.  I relayed Belichick’s comments...

Karma’s A Bi**h Bill!

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick got a big dose of karma after cutting reserve wide receiver Tiquan Underwood on the eve of Super Bowl XLVI. It’s pretty funny how I just wrote about how wrong New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was for cutting reserve wide receiver Tiquan Underwood just 24 hours before the biggest game of his life in order to add defensive...

Setting the pregame scene: More photos from the Lucas Oil Stadium field

Here’s a collection of photos of the field at Lucas Oil Stadium as the Patriots and Giants prepare for the kickoff of Super Bowl XLVI. All photos by the Associated Press. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick…on the verge of history. A look at Rob Gronkowski’s heavily taped ankles. (more…)

Super Bowl XLVI Second Half Live Blog

The Giants decisively outplayed the Patriots in the first half. Bill Belichick displayed Andy Reid-ian clock management skills toward the end. His team doesn’t bother covering tight ends. The Pats defensive line was on rollerskates. Yet here we are with the Gritriots winning on the strength of a late gritdown from Danny Woodhead. So now that the Patriots have survived that...

Belichick makes it official: McDaniels will be offensive coordinator

Patriots coach Bill Belichick confirmed Monday what had been reported for weeks in New England. Asked about the succession plan for departing offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, Belichick responded, “It’s Josh.” That would be Josh McDaniels, who will take over his old role running the Patriots offense. He’s the first coordinator under Belichick to return to…

The Patriots and Giants lesson for the Redskins: stand by your man

There are two lessons to be learned from the Patriots-Giants Super Bowl yesterday. One is that receivers are as important to the passing game as quarterbacks (Patriots receivers let the team down yesterday). The second and more important lesson is the value of standing beside your man. This lesson applies to the Washington Redskins and Mike Shanahan. Bill Belichick has been the...

Column: There's still a game in there somewhere

The strangest coaching decision during Super Bowl week wasn't when Bill Belichick ordered his defense to act like matadors and wave Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw by for a touchdown from 6 yards out with less than a minute left in the game. That's just the one people will remember. The really odd one came four days earlier when the uber-prepared Patriots coach, anticipating...

Tom O's and X's out Bill again

Bill Belichick played rope a dope Sunday, nearly sending another gameplan to the Hall of Fame. But all it took was for Eli Manning and Mario Manningham to land one late punch, an example of that perseverance that carried the Giants to another Super Bowl championship.

Coughlin earns his place among super coaches

If Bill Belichick is a genius, what does that make Tom Coughlin? Belichick had been 3-0 as Super Bowl coach until he ran into Tom Coughlin and the New York Giants.

Super Bowl Predictions -- Patriots Win

On Sunday, as we all know, Super Bowl XLVI is being held in Indianapolis, IN. Being that I have no rooting interest in either team and just want to see a good game, I might as well list my prediction who will win the Super Bowl. I say the New England Patriots will win Sunday's game for it all, 26-21. Although the New York Giants have been hot throughout the playoffs, I think...

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski Will 'Definitely Play' Tonight

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick says that tight end Rob Gronkowski will "definitely play" in tonight's Super Bowl XLVI, Alex Flanagan of NBC Sports reports. How much record-setting tight end plays tonight will depend on what he's able to do, Belichick added. In case you've been living under a rock that last weeks, Gronkowski has a high left ankle sprain that...

Post-Super Bowl Mock Draft

Post-Super Bowl Mock Draft: Here’s my latest mock draft for Bleacher Report. With the 27th pick the New England Patriots take South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery.  Alshon Jeffery is exactly what the New England Patriots need on offense, a tall, physical wide receiver that has a well-rounded skill set.  Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would love to add Jeffery to...
