Six-year veteran Bobby Carpenter is hoping to become the contributing factor he was billed as when he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft, 18th overall.

His career didn’t quite get off to a great start in Dallas. Over the 4 years in Dallas, he failed to establish a starting role, racking up 96 tackles in that span. We saw in 2008, during an episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks, Carpenter being continuously beaten by Cowboys right tackle Marc Colombo, who called him "Barbie Carpenter".

After stints in St. Louis, Miami and Detroit, Carpenter signed the one-year deal in April with the Patriots worth $775,000.

"It's a great opportunity to get a chance to play on a winning football team and for an organization that has done so well over the last decade," Carpenter told the Lancaster Eagle Gazette.

"Each season is different," he said. "Rosters turn over a lot, but the expectations in New England are always high."

"A few other teams were interested, but New England was the team that showed the most interest and coach Belichick is one of the best coaches in football," he said. "I'm excited to have to opportunity to play there."

The hope is that the 6’ 2”, 249 pound Carpenter will benefit from the Patriots system where they could utilize him differently than how he’s been used to so far with the other teams.

"We'll see how it goes," he said. "I got a chance to work hard and show what I'm capable of doing. Hopefully, my play will speak for itself."
