Thomas Clayton knows the business, but he still thought he had done enough in the preseason to make the Patriots. Instead, he was off to Cleveland’s practice squad. Now, he’s back.
It’s been a whirlwind for the diminutive running back.
“It was a pretty quick turnaround,” Clayton said today. “I was with Cleveland preparing for a game, I thought that’s where I was going to be. Then, I got the call, and I was excited to hear it was from the Patriots. Considering I was here prior to moving to Cleveland, I’m really familiar with the playbook and that leaves me with a little bit of comfort that I know what I’m doing.”
Clayton hasn’t heard from the coaches about what his role may be, but he knows he was brought in for a reason. Perhaps it was because Fred Taylor’s toe injury will keep him out Monday. Perhaps not.
“As of right now, nothing has been declared,” Clayton said. “But I’m prepared for whatever they throw at me...
