The Rap Sheet:
The Patriots have reached an injury settlement with veteran receiver Torry Holt, I’ve confirmed. This means that Holt is now a free agent.
The former Rams great was placed in Injured Reserve by the Patriots last weekend, ending his tenure with the team. Holt was to have knee surgery this week. Coach Bill Belichick had said yesterday that Holt wouldn’t be with the team while he rehabs.
With this move, which is the usual result when a team releases an injured player, Holt can now sign with any team when he gets better.
That’s assuming the veteran still thinks he can compete and play in the NFL. Perhaps a more likely option is that Holt can sign a one-day contract with the Rams and retire as a a member of their organization. He did, after all, star as a participate in the Greatest Show on Turf.
