Musket Fire:
It was a busy day for the New England Patriots and several of their former players. First off, the big news of the day for Patriots fans was the signing of former Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters. Waters visited with the team Saturday and then came to terms on a one-year deal Sunday. Due to several injuries at the guard position (Dan Connolly, Ryan Wendell, Rich Ohrnberger) and likely a lack of talent as well, Waters seemingly will start in the season opener at Miami.
While Waters may not be at his former Pro Bowl level, he still brings plenty of talent to the Patriots offensive line. Even without the current slew of injuries at the position, Waters makes the offensive line better, and likely would have started anyway. To make room for Waters on the roster, the Patriots released OT Steve Maneri and LS James Dearth. To replace Dearth at LS, the Patriots claimed rookie Danny Aiken off waivers from the Buffalo Bills.
A bunch of former Patriots also found new homes.
