FOXBORO, Mass. — Cue the Danny Woodhead comparisons. Actually, please don’t.
The Patriots signed undrafted free agent running back Sam McGuffie to the team’s practice squad. In a corresponding move, they released running back Cierre Wood from the practice squad.
McGuffie played at Michigan and Rice. He began his career as a running back before moving to wide receiver his senior season.
In McGuffie’s college career, he had 358 carries for 1,543 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 121 catches for 1,234 yards and 10 touchdowns. In his senior season, he had 54 receptions for 603 yards and five scores.
McGuffie ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash at Rice’s Pro Day at 5-foot-10, 200 pounds. He had a freakish 3.93-second 20-yard shuttle and 6.57-second 3-cone drill time. He spent time with the Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals earlier this season.
McGuffie is best known for his high school highlight reels which became a YouTube sensation. Check out one of the clips below.
