The Rap Sheet:
It is a play he will never get back. Patriots WR Wes Welker couldn’t corral a pass with 4:06 left, a throw behind him that banged off his hands. It was a missed chance and it loomed large in the Super Bowl XLVI loss.
Welker felt it. He owned up afterward, with tears in his eyes.
“I mean he saw it and threw me the ball,” Welker said. “I think he was a little worried about the safety so he threw it a little wider or whatever. But I mean, its right there. It hits me right in the hands. It’s one I’ll have to live with.”
The Giants actually blew the coverage, with Welker saying, “I think they got a little mixed up.” In the end, he came up empty.
“It hit me right in the hands,” Welker said. “I mean, it’s a play I never drop, I always make. Most critical situation and I let the team down.”
BEST OF MAXIM
Looking at Wes Welker’s numbers, you would expect him to receive a big payday this offseason. Welker has been the New England Patriots’ most productive receiver over the past five years but there are a couple of factors that may determine if he receives that big payday or not. Welker has caught at least 100 catches or more in four of the five years he has played in New England...
New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker is normally a sure-handed guy, but his drop in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl proved to be a pivotal play in what turned out to be a New York Giants’ victory.
The Patriots were up 17-15 with just over four minutes remaining when Welker dropped the pass just outside of the Giants’ 20. What could have been? Well, a 24-15 lead, for...
There's PR stunts, and then there's attempts to alienate entire regions of the country. This one feels like the latter. Online pawn shop Pawngo.com left 900 pounds of Butterfingers candy bars in Copley Square to mock Patriots receiver Wes Welker, who dropped a key pass late in Super Bowl XLVI. The website also left a large placard reading, "Thank you Wes Welker"...
She is hot, but she is also a mean sore loser!
An infuriated Gisele Bunchen was recorded saying, “You (have) to catch the ball when you’re supposed to catch the ball. My husband cannot (bleeping) throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times.”
Wes Welker is going to feel pretty awkward the next time...
Wes Welker is not the sole reason why the Patriots — again — lost to the Giants in the Big Game, though the Pro Bowl receiver still feels like the guiltiest culprit.
In the waning minutes of Super Bowl XLVI, Tom Brady delivered a strike downfield to Welker, who split the defense and, like he always does, found himself open.
The result? A very uncharacteristic drop by Welker,...

INDIANAPOLIS - No Patriot, at least visibly, took Sunday’s Super Bowl loss any harder than Wes Welker.
Wes Welker’s voice was barely audible. He leaned forward in his director’s chair as he sat at a podium in the Patriots interview area at Lucas Oil Stadium, taking questions about his role in the Patriots’ 21-17 loss to the Giants last night in Super Bowl XLVI.
The Giants may have won the Super Bowl, but does that mean Las Vegas sports books believe they’re the best team in the NFL? Apparently not.
According to RJ Bell of Pregame.com, if the Patriots and Giants rematched in a Super Bowl next week, the Pats would still be favored by 2.5 points.
Bell says both the Packers and Saints would be even greater favorites against the Giants...
