The Pete Carroll era in New England ended like the way it began, with Pete Carroll smiling. Carroll circled the stadium and waved goodbye. It was the silliest display of misplaced affection. Carroll had endured a treacherous Boston Media that portrayed him as a happy fool. All that have witnessed Carroll at USC, or in Seattle, never had the experience of his Patriot days. Carroll was unfortunate to be caught in the Bill Parcells exit in 1997, and coming off a super bowl loss to Green Bay. Carroll was what the front office was looking for, a coach who was just happy taking orders, not dictating them. However, Bob Kraft learned from his actions and hired a new football operations and in the wake of Carroll’s departure. The opportunity to hire Bill Belichick arose. So Carroll is a footnote in Patriots history, but he’s not in Seattle where he is 3-2 and facing his old team. Carroll joined Dennis and Callahan on WEEI in Boston to discuss if he’ll prepare differently:

“I didn’t leave it the way I wanted to leave it, but I’m pretty much past all that stuff. Been a lot of years since then. But I’m competitive, too, and I wish it would have gone better. I don’t like to look back at anything that didn’t work out right, so I had that thought but it certainly isn’t going to affect me. … There’s a little something-something in there, but that’s just something that I have to deal with. I’ve got my grudges and my issues, like anybody else. So it’s not going to affect much on this game plan, I’m sure.”
