For the first time since 1994, the Philadelphia Eagles have lost seven straight games. This loss came at the hands of Cam Newton and the 3-8 Carolina Panthers by a score of 30-22. The saddest part about this game was that many of the talking heads on Philadelphia radio stations were saying on the post-game shows that at least this game was competitive. The Eagles have truly hit rock bottom. They are, without a doubt, the worst team in the NFC. In fact, the only two teams that may be worse than them in the NFL are the Chiefs and the Browns. You will undoubtedly begin to see articles popping up that say it’s time to root against the Eagles so that they can get a good draft pick. Don’t sink that low, Eagles fans. Root for your team to win. Offense: Rookie quarterback Nick Foles looked good in his second start this season, completing 16 passes for 119 yards. He seemed more The Eagles have lost seven straight games for the first time since 1994, when Rich Kotite was head coach. confident in the pocket and stepped into his throws. I would expect him to start the rest of the season. We have to see if he is the quarterback of the future for this Eagles team. Running back Bryce Brown also had a good game, rushing for two touchdowns, and 178 yards on 19 carries. The downside is that he fumbled twice, which left a blemish on an overall good game for him. If he can learn how to protect the ball, I could see him having a nice NFL career here in Philadelphia. The offensive line played fairly well against the Panthers. In my opinion, the good play from the offensive line was a direct result of Andy Reid running the ball more. Nick Foles only attempted 21 passes while Bryce Brown and Dion Lewis combined for 24 rushing attempts. The major question is why haven’t we seen more of this balance this year? Wide receiver DeSean Jackson broke several ribs in last nights game. He has been placed on the Injured Reserve list and will probably miss the rest of the season. Left tackle Jason Peters was also put back on the Injured Reserve list, which means we will not see a comeback from him this year. Grade: B Defense:What in the world has happened to this defense? It has gotten progressively worse every week since Juan Castillo was fired. The most alarming, and maddening, part of this is that there seems to be a complete lack of effort; especially in the secondary. I saw at least two plays where Nnamdi Asomugha stopped and watched the play unfold in front of him without doing a darn thing. Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles said after the game that he is seriously considering benching a few players in the secondary. Panthers quarterback Can Newton completed 18 passes for 306 yards and threw for two touchdowns. He also rus hed for two touchdowns and gained 52 yards. In short, he dominated the Eagles. There were times when the defensive line got through and tackled the Newton for losses, but it was not consistent enough to rattle the young quarterback. This Eagles defense is historically bad and could go down as one of the worst, if not the worst defense in Eagles history. Grade: F There are just five games left for the Eagles this season. It’s time to evaluate who really wants to play here and who does not. I expect Andy Reid to finish the season, and I would be shocked if Michael Vick ever saw the field again this year.
