Found August 31, 2012 on Philly Sports Nut:

Ladies and gentlemen, the cuts have begun. The Philadelphia Eagles roster now stands at 56 after the team announced the release of 19 players on Friday.

Those who did not make the final 53-man roster include:

S Oshiomogho Atogwe

TE Brett Brackett

LB Keenan Clayton

DT Landon Cohen

TE Chase Ford

WR Mardy Gilyard

WR Chad Hall

CB Joselio Hanson

FB Emil Igwenagu

T D.J. Jones

WR Marvin McNutt

LB Adrian Moten

DT Ollie Ogbu

LB Ryan Rau

DE Monte Taylor

S Phillip Thomas

DT Frank Trotter

G/C Steve Vallos

G Brandon Washington

The biggest surprise on the list is cornerJoselio Hanson. Might the Eagles plan to bring him back on to the squad as they did last year?

The biggest disappointment is likely OJ Atogwe, who simply could not remain healthy. That fact leaves the Eagles where they started before signing Atogwe, which is having concerns at the safety position.

It’s a shame that Hall didn’t make it, as he had a great camp and preseason. There was so much talent at the wide receiver position, including from rookie Damaris Johnson, that it simply couldn’t work.

These early cuts give us little insight into what will be the toughest/highest profile decisions on the team–defensive line and quarterback. The Eagles are said to be furiously working the phones to work out trades for some players so as not to lose them outright. We’ll have to keep guessing a few more hours as to who stays and who goes.

Brackett, Ford, Hall, Igwenagu, Jones, McNutt, Ogbu, Rau, Taylor, Thomas, Trotter and Washington all have practice squad eligibility.

In addition, the Eagles and G Mike Gibson reached an injury settlement and he has been released from their Injured Reserve list.

The Eagles have until 9 pm ET to make decisions on the final three players.

After a very aggressive offseason prior to the 2011-2012 NFL season – including signing Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha – the Philadelphia Eagles were thought to be one of the more likely Super Bowl contenders. Quarterback Vince Young, who the team had signed to back up the reborn Mike Vick, labeled the team as a “dream team” before they’d even hit the field as a unit...

If the Eagles are going to be a Super Bowl team this season, it will be on the back of Michael Vick. “We expect Michael Vick to have terrific year,” Jeffrey Lurie said at Lincoln Financial Field, before the Eagles’ final preseason game against the Jets. “That’s why he’s the starting quarterback. That’s why he’s been signed for a number of years. I have to say that Michael...

Just stopped by for a Gatorade Juan…   LeSean McCoy can’t even stop by a Circle K for a Gatorade without attracting attention to himself.  That’s what happens when you are a stud RB playing for the Eagles.  McCoy is part of the Three Amigo fantasy RBs that everyone coveted in drafts.  With the Eagles paying their young back big bucks this offseason, you know they love him...

Eagles Trim to 53 and Make Trade for Safety

The Eagles, like the rest of the NFL trimmed their roster to 53 players yesterday. There weren’t too many surprises, but a couple of names have been around town for a while and will now be looking for new homes. Another player found a new home in Philly. Mike Kafka, who was named the #2 QB on the team at the start of OTAs lost his job.  Nick Foles, the rookie out of Arizona won...

Eagles Finally Riding Themselves of Practice Squad Talent

As the Eagles 53 man roster starts to take shape, I’m glad to see they cut Chad Hall. I have nothing against Hall, and he’s a very likeable guy, but one of the major problems the Eagles have had under this regime at times is a severe lack of talent evaluation. Chad Hall is simply not an NFL caliber player, and the Eagles have carried guys like him on their roster for far too...

The Eagles acquired safety David Sims from the Browns late Friday evening for a conditional draft pick.
