WR Ron Johnson suffered an ankle injury widely described as “gruesome” at Eagles practice on Monday and for which he had surgery today. This led Johnson to being waived/injured by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday. In his place, the team picked up former UFL receiver Andrew Brewer (6-3, 215).
Brewer is familiar to at least two people in the Eagles organization. He played with the Omaha Nighthawks for the 2010 and 2011 seasons under Rick Mueller, who currently works as a player personnel executive with Philadelphia.
The receiver went to Northwestern University, where he was teammates with quarterback Mike Kafka and had a career total 76 catches for 1,118 yards and nine touchdowns.
It will be interesting to see if Brewer and Kafka are able to rekindle any remnants of their college chemistry in training camp.
