Heath Miller is a crucial piece in the Pittsburgh Steelers offense and was recently activated off the PUP list. Miller has come off the physically unable to perform list just before the Steelers first game of the season against the Tennessee Titians. There was a lot of speculation surrounding when the tight end would make his way back into the lineup. Miller is expected to only miss the first month of the season. If everything goes according to plan, we should see Miller back when the Steelers face the New York Jets. The Steelers have a bye in week 5 after facing the Minnesota Vikings in London. Miller’s return comes at a good time. The Steelers, after the Jets, face the Baltimore Ravens at home then the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots on the road. This will be a tough three game stretch for the Steelers but having Miller back as a weapon could lessen the burden. A big question about Miller’s return will be if he can rebound from a severe injury and be the tight end he’s always been. In most cases I believe that once a player suffers a torn ACL, that player is never really the same. This isn’t always the case but more times than none I believe it to be true. If Miller returns to the field and is still the dominant tight end he’s always been then any lacking elements in the receiving corps will be given a boost. No question Miller is one of, if not Ben Roethlisberger’s favorite target. In the red zone, Miller’s contributions have been phenominal. If there is no ground and pound game then expect Miller to be the go-to-guy in the red zone for another season. I’ve always said Miller deserves more credit than he gets. If these young receivers on the Steelers offense can’t get the job done, everyone will truly value the return of number 83. However, if these recievers do turn out to be a solid group and Miller is 100 percent when he returns, Roethlisberger should have no problem lighting it up. It’s nothing but good for the Steelers when Miller is on the field.
