After losing James Harrison to division rival Cincinnati, the Steelers needed a replacement at the linebacker position. When their name came up at number 17 in the first round of the draft, Pittsburgh chose to go with Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones. Jones is a great linebacker who should do an amazing job in Steel Town. Is he good enough to resemble a certain beast out in Denver? If you had a hard time catching the hint, it's Von Miller. One of the best linebackers and pass rushers in the league. Miller won Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in his 2011 rookie season, and finished 3rd in sacks (18.5) last season. With a little more experience, I truly see Miller being the best linebacker in the league, and multiple Defensive Player of the Year Awards to come. After watching Miller evolve into the player he is the past two seasons, you wouldn't expect a rookie to be compared to him already. With Jarvis Jones, it's just hard not to. Jones and Miller are similar in size with Miller being 6'3", 237 and Jones being 6"2", 245. Obviously, the height isn't a big difference, but Jones does have a little more meat on him with the extra 8 pounds. Seeing he's only a rookie, he will probably increase that weight over the upcoming summer(s) in the training camp weight room. Jones is inferior to Miller in the speed category according to his 40-yard dash time at his Georgia Pro Day, but speed is something that the trainers in Pittsburgh can help with. If he can come close to Miller in speed in addition to his sleight weight advantage, Jones could really be the next Von Miller.Let's now compare the football attributes of the two. Jones lines up as a linebacker on the line, as Miller does, and is already a threat to the quarterback as soon as the ball is snapped. Jones is a very powerful pass rusher who tore through the SEC offensive lines in college. As soon as he got to the quarterback, they would soon not forget it. Jones really gave them a good pop when he got to them. Although Jones is a very good pass rusher, he also is a good tackler. The only difference I see between the two at the moment is speed. After studying how they both  jump off the line, and how fast they get to the ball carrier, you can see an obvious difference. If Jones can improve his speed, the two will be practically identical. There are some things to be done, but within the next few years, be sure to watch out for Jarivs Jones.
