The Pittsburgh Steelers were back at it Saturday as training camp continues, unfortunately without rookie left tackle Mike Adams, who left Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a right knee injury. While the injury does not appear serious, with him listed as day-to-day, it will definitely affect his attempt to become the opening day start on quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s blind side. With Adam’s nursing his injury, and veteran Max Starks still on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list recovering from his torn ACL, second year offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert took over on the left side, with guard Ramon Foster sliding out to right tackle. Backing up Gilbert and Foster will be offensive tackles Trai Essex, Kyle Jolly and Chris Scott.

Ironically, Foster became available to slide outside today after news broke that rookie first round selection David DeCastro was named the starting right guard. For DeCastro, it is a huge step forward in solidifying the interior of the offensive line, especially after what was reported as a difficult beginning to training camp. Fortunately when the lights turned on Thursday, so did his play, as he looked athletic and fluid in the running game and was not over-matched in the passing game.

If no moves are made in the next few days to boost depth along the offensive line and no other injuries pop up, fans should expect to see the right side combination of Maurkice Pouncey, DeCastro and Foster in the next preseason game, with Gilbert and veteran Willie Colon manning the left side.
