Monday was a quiet day at Latrobe for the Pittsburgh Steelers as the team took a day off from training camp before starting preparations for their first preseason game Thursday in Philadelphia. The off day should have been a welcome sight for the players after a whirlwind weekend of practice at three different venues. After the annual night practice Friday, a return to Saint Vincent on Saturday for a lackluster set of goal line drills, and an hour long bus ride to the teams headquarters for a closed practice on Sunday, it is clear that the coaching staff is creating a challenging environment for the players. A group of situations that could help build chemistry for the long road ahead.

On Sunday, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was held out of action after leaving practice early on Saturday. While head coach Mike Tomlin continues to say the injury is minor, it would be surprising to see Roethlisberger on Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

One player that should see a lot of action is rookie left tackle Mike Adams, who is continuing to see more reps with the first team offense. It would be a great sign for Adams and the Steelers if the second round pick could help solidify the left side of the offensive line early, with schedule seeing some tough early competition in the season. Of course, his true competitor for the spot, Max Starks, remains on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) with no timetable on a return

One of the more interesting stories that is flying under the RADAR at Steelers training camp is the absence of punter Jeremy Kapinos, who continue to miss practice with a back injury. While Tomlin says he is week to week, one cannot help to think that this is opening the door even wider for undrafted rookie free agent punter Drew Butler, one of our pre camp sleepers.

The Steelers return to the practice field on Tuesday afternoon at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe before traveling to Philadelphia for their match up against the Eagles.
