The Pittsburgh Steelers lost a crucial match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. The Steelers were defeated  20-10. The Steelers offense looks horrendous. Ben Roethlisberger went 20 for 37 one touchdown and one interception. There’s just no life in the Steelers offense right now and Roethlisberger’s chemistry with his receivers is nowhere to be found. Emmanuel Sanders lead the team in receiving with 5 catches for 78 yards while Jerricho Cotchery was second best by reeleing in 3 receptions for 59-yards. The Steelers best looking offensive drive all night led to their only touchdown. Roethlisberger found Derek Moye in the end zone for a 1-yard score. Aside from that scoring drive the Steeler displayed another pitiful offensive performance. Roethlisberger didn’t help matters either. Big Ben didn’t look sharp on Monday night just like the rest of his offense. His throws were off target on several occasions, maybe that’s due to miscommunications with his receivers but overall we’ve seen much better play from the franchise quarterback. The Steelers running game is virtually nonexistent. Felix Jones carried the load in the backfield, he managed to only accumulate 37-yards. The team as a whole amassed 44-yards on the night. To put things into perspective Roethlisberger was the team’s second leading rusher with 6-yards. The Steelers running game is an absolute joke. Another bone to pick with the Steelers offenses is that of play calling. I’ve given Haley the benefit of the doubt on several occasions but my patience is running thin. Haley’s play calling isn’t getting the job done. I understand the concept of “dink and dunk” to protect Roethlisberger but at this point Roethlisberger’s getting hit regardless. Early in the game the Steelers were faced with a third down and nine. The team took to a shot gun formation and ran the ball, failing to pick up the first down. I can’t comprehend why Haley won’t let the team’s two-time Super Bowl champion throw the ball down field. Is there really that much concern on him taking a big hit or is it just no trust in the receiving corps? Whatever the reason, play calls at those times, needs to go. The Steelers have incorporated a lot of different screen plays as well. They too aren’t getting the team anywhere. It’s time to take another approach, I’m not saying it’s time for Haley to pack his bags but something has definitely got to change. The Steelers offense is struggling badly. The Steeler have made the playoffs three out of four times in the last 25 years when starting the season 0-2 but to think this team is capable of rebounding is hard to fathom. Unless significant change is made to this Steelers offense the defense is going to have to carry the team and it’s evident they can only carry it to some degree. If the defense can continue their solid play and the offense can make a major turn around then maybe just maybe this Steelers team can get their act together. Until that occurs, they’ll continue to fall.
