The 6 o’clock morning news at WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh found itself in an embarrassing situation Wednesday morning after it erroneously reported as fact a satirical story by BroCouncil.com saying that beloved former Steelers receiver Hines Ward signed with the bitter divisional-rival Ravens. Here’s news anchor Todd McDermott first mentioning the “report” in passing as the broadcast transitioned to traffic: <img align="right" class="alignright align="right" wp-image-121744" style="margin: 4px;" title="hines-ward-ravens" src="http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/hines-ward-ravens-260x239.jpg" alt="" width="164" height="150" />Never mind that free agents can’t sign contracts until Tuesday, or the fact the story is labeled as a spoof, it’s hard to fathom what about Bro Council’s report made the folks at WPXI think it was real, what with tidbits like the following: “Ward was a...

Pittsburgh TV station reported Hines Ward was signed by the Ravens

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, during the 6am morning news on Wednesday, WPXI-TV morning anchor Todd McDermott reported that Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward had signed with the Baltimore Ravens. “We’re a little in shock,” Mr. McDermott said to co-anchor Jennifer Abney per the Post-Gazette. What’s really funny is that Ward hasn’t even been officially released...

Options If The Steelers Are Forced To Move On From Mike Wallace

By Cian Fahey It is unlikely that Mike Wallace leaves the Pittsburgh Steelers when free agency begins next week but the chance remains as Wallace is a restricted free agent (breaking news I know). In my mind, there are two teams who could likely make a run at Wallace. Those teams are the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers. If the Patriots sign Wallace, the Steelers will...

GM Kevin Colbert Represented Steelers Wednesday At Alabama Pro Day

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert was present for the 2012 University of Alabama pro day Wednesday as were reps for the other 31 teams in the league. While several draft worthy players worked out for all in attendance, one could easily speculate that Colbert was there to mostly watch linebacker Dont'a Hightower, who reportedly only went through a few of the drills...

The case for keeping the Big Snack in Pittsburgh

With so many restructures already in the books for the Steelers, along with all the recent cuts, there’s a solid case for keeping NT Casey Hampton on the team in 2012.  “He’s recovering from ACL surgery” you say? Yes indeed he is, but even given that situation, Hampton could still contribute to the team in 2012. One of Hampton’s best friends and long time teammate Chris...

Middle Linebacker perhaps not such an immediate need for Steelers?

There are two draft picks that everyone seems to have the Steelers interested in since the combine, if not before. Dontari Poe appears to get further and further out of sight by the day with many experts saying he’s a top 15 pick by now. The more realistic name is Dont’a Hightower, LB out of Alabama. Of course you can still make a case for an offensive lineman in round one but...

Clark reaffirms notion of watch what you tweet

Each and every one of us has been in the unenviable position of having stuck our foot in our respective mouths before. If you haven’t, then you’re perfect and can stop reading. Unfortunately for some, there is a bigger spotlight which shines directly onto their mouths and makes everything they utter larger then it probably should be. These individuals of course are politicians...

How the 2001 draft led to Casey Hampton

By Christina Rivers It was 2001.  The Pittsburgh Steelers had drafted two wide receivers in the first round the previous two years (Troy Edwards and Plaxico Burress).  The Steelers were targeting defensive linemen, and for the first time since 1990, they ended up doing something they very seldom ever do; trading down.  The result was that the man they wanted - Marcus Stroud out...

Ben on tweaking his game: “Just stay healthy. That is it.”

There’s been much to analyze this offseason for the Steelers, and quite frankly over analyze too. Amidst all of the Ben and Haley comedic rhetoric to the more serious issue of player cuts and restructures, was the comments of Art Rooney II on Ben Roethlisberger needing to “tweak his game”. That alone has been worth an exponential amount of discussion among every member of the...

Pittsburgh Steelers: Mewelde Moore Is All About His Team and Kids

In the football world, wearing the black and gold can be compared to garnering a badge of honor.  An honor free agent running back Mewelde Moore proudly holds in high regard as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Other than having the privilege to play for the Steelers and having a successful career in the NFL, Moore appreciates another opportunity, which is far more important...

Burress Calls Roethlisberger His Favorite Quarterback & Is Open To Returning To Steelers

Soon to be unrestricted free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress joined Adam Schein and Rich Gannon on SiriusXM NFL Radio Tuesday morning to talk about his upcoming free agency situation and talk about a few teams that he would be interested in playing for. After Burress was asked about the possibility of playing for the New York Jets, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and the...

Things I Think I Think – Steelers 3/6/12

Just some random musings about Steelers topics that have been going through my head. Apparently Ben Roethlisberger‘s foundation didn’t give up a promised police dog.   Why can’t this joker just keep quiet in the offseason? Okay, honestly I don’t care about this.  I’m sure Ben doesn’t actually run the freaking foundation in his spare [...]

Steelers Round Up: Fishing, Motorcycles and Hockey

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks in the Steelers organization, but this week has been relatively quiet.  But all the guys have been busy. Big Ben has been doing some fishing with former Steeler Merril Hoge. With all the nice weather this week, it looks like James Harrison is thinking about breaking out the motorcycle. Thinking about pulling out the bike for a minute!!! ...
