Philadelphia Eagles running back Chris Polk has successful surgery this week on his injured shoulder, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan: #Eagles RB Chris Polk had shoulder surgery earlier this week, per source. Stems from injury during Week 6 game at #Buccaneers. — Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) January 23, 2014 Polk injured the shoulder earlier in the year, and battled the injury throughout the season. He had two notable games — one against the Lions in the Snow Bowl, the other against the Bears in the Week 16 blowout — in which he scored touchdowns. Outside of that, he was merely a depth player despite head coach Chip Kelly saying he was impressed by him. The former Washington product has a history of shoulder issues. When he was in college, he had surgery on his shoulder. This likely caused scouts to back off him a bit, as Polk went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Eagles could be in the market — likely via the draft — for another running back. Polk and Bryce Brown were serviceable this year, but the Howie Roseman/Chip Kelly philosophy of always trying to get better suggests that competition for the spots behind LeSean McCoy could be brought in. Polk has 11 carries for 98 yards and three touchdowns in two seasons in the NFL.
