Some people say the physical drills that players go through at the NFL combine are overrated and overblown, and for the most part I tend to agree with that. Running a 40-yard dash and bench pressing are an excellent indicator of the type of athlete someone is, but that is not enough to make them a good football player. Every so often, however, someone like Presbyterian defensive back Justin Bethel busts out a freakish vertical leap that simply can’t be ignored.

As you can see from the video above that The Post Game passed along, Bethel is capable of jumping about 60 inches into the air onto a stack of boxes. He “only” managed a vertical leap of 39.5 inches at the combine, but clearly he is capable of more.

“That night, we were showing how our weightlifting coach, coach Taylor, had helped us get stronger,” Bethel told CNBC SportsBiz. “We were just showing off to the fans, the local people. We had some volleyball players in there and they had seen me work out before and they had seen me do these box jumps.”

Bethel said a crowd surrounded him and asked him to jump, so he did. The result was amazing and rivals that Adrian Wilson video that was making the YouTube rounds about five years ago. If Bethel is drafted, he would be the first player out of Presbyterian to be selected since 1960. With hops like that, I don’t see how he can possibly be overlooked.
