As a New Orleans native, Keenan Lewis is dedicated to giving back to the community he grew up in.
Last week Lewis teamed up with fellow Bayou boy Dolphins’ wide receiver Mike Wallace to host a football camp for 500 local kids. Campers had the opportunity to run through football drills and even receive one-on-one instruction from the pro athletes.
“The response we received for this camp was great,” Lewis told NewOrleansSaints.com. “We wanted to give back to our neighborhood and teach them about the sport they enjoy.”
Lewis also runs his own organization that “is dedicated to empowering and inspiring children and young adults through the promotion of health, education and athletics.”
All in all, Lewis is one of the ‘good guys’ of the NFL. He has his head in the right place and that’ part of the reason why the Saints rely so heavily on him. As a New Orleans kid, he reminds me a lot of Tracy Porter as far as his impact on the team is concerned.
Hopefully he’ll be able to have a similar impact in a similar spot.
