Despite signing cornerback Ronald Bartell on Friday, the Raiders are still looking for help at cornerback as they are very thin at that position - even with Bartell's signing they still only have 4 cornerbacks currently on the roster.

On Friday, the Raiders met with former 49ers CB Shawnte Spencer.  Raiders new defensive coordinator Jason Tarver was with the 49ers for year before a year at Stanford last season and will be familiar with Spencer's abilities.  That the Raiders are looking at him most likely means that Tarver thinks he's a possible future Raider.

Spencer is another big cornerback at 6'1", 190 lbs.  He was a 2nd round draft pick in 2004.  He was a starter at right cornerback for the 49ers almost from the start.

He played in all 16 games as a rookie, starting 12.  Over his career he has started 72 of the 98 games in which he's played.  He started and played in every game in both 2009 and 2010.

When the coaching staff changed and Harbaugh took over the 49ers, Spencer lost his starting job in camp and moved to nickel and progressively got less playing time as the season wore on.

He was due $3.3 million for this next season and was cut by the team as a cap casualty.

The Raiders are reportedly still in the mix for former New Orleans CB Tracy Porter, as well, although there are no reports they have worked him out at this time.  Porter played under Raiders head coach Dennis Allen when he was the defensive backs coach for the Saints.
