After just one season, Terrance Ganaway has decided to call it a career -- albeit for an admirable reason.

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday that Ganaway is retiring from the NFL in order to go back to graduate school.

Ganaway, 24, confirmed the news on Twitter, thanking (and apologizing to) his fans.

Ganaway, who played his college ball at Baylor, was the Jets' sixth-round pick in 2012, but couldn't crack the final roster. He was released by New York and landed in St. Louis, where he spent all of last season. He entered 2013 buried on the Rams' depth chart. Ganaway finishes with zero career carries.

If anything, you might recall his name popping up earlier this offseason, when he took a job making sandwiches at Jimmy John's in order to keep out of trouble.

Speaking of which ...

Give him credit, he has a good sense of humor and evidently a good head on his shoulders. It's remarkably hard for athletes to walk away from the game, but at least Ganaway had the chance to live out a dream that very few get to experience.
