With the long term injury to Rams 2nd year nickel corner Jerome Murphy and the rest of the corners each having black marks on their respective health records, the Rams will be scouring the waiver wire for any corner back help, but they will not be the only team looking. As ESPN so eloquently alerted everyone in the world today, the Giants are in corner back situation is in “Code Black”. They lost one starting corner to a torn ACL and another depth corner to a long term injury in one game. Since, this is the Giants, and this is ESPN, this is a big deal.
This has an effect on the Rams because they possibly will be shopping for recently released corners themselves. Let’s take a look at the Rams current depth chart at corner:
Starter: Ron Bartell (played through various injuries each of the last two seasons)
Starter: Bradley Fletcher (ACL injury two years ago)
3rd Corner: Al Harris (veteran, but with age comes better chance of injury)
4th Corner: Justin King (remarkably injury free, but hasn’t lived up to potential)
Depth: Marquis Johnson (I still believe in Johnson, but he can’t get on the field)
Depth: Dionte Dinkins and Tae Evans (both UDFA and were both each burned in one of the two preseason games)
The Rams look to need a player in the non-Kevin Dockery division to provide some quality depth in case of injury to one of the Rams top 4 corners.
