Star safety Ed Reed was greeted with some southern hospitality this week as he met with the Houston Texans.  Reed left Houston without a deal or an offer, and that now gives the Ravens one more shot at the future Hall of Famer. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome expects to meet with Reed’s representatives this week at the owners meetings, and make an offer to keep Reed in tow. Newsome told USA Today that he expects Reed to make his decision sometime this week. “Four years ago, we went down this same road with Ray,” Newsome said. “Dave always does a very good job of keeping us in the loop. That doesn’t mean that Ed will come back, and it doesn’t mean that he will leave.” The Ravens obviously want to keep the 12 year veteran, and need to come forward with an offer similar to the $7.2 million Reed played for last season. Newsome who is one of the best GM’s in football knows he needs a good draft and some sound evaluation to rebound from the losses the Ravens incurred in free agency. “I’ve learned through the years, whether it’s on offense or defense or special teams, you’ve got to be careful for how quickly you transition,” Newsome said. “You’ve got to make sure that you contain certain elements, while you let other elements go.”
